Welcome Sign Pro!

Pro Crease Goaltending is proud to announce that Sign Pro, located in nearby Plantsville, CT, has become our newest corporate partner. A worldwide provider of signs for over 25 years, we're excited to report that Sign Pro has recently entered the goalie mask decoration business (see sample below). As more and more goalies look to personalize their masks, the high cost and time associated with painting and/or other finishing can often be difficult to overcome. Instead, Sign Pro's graphics department will work with Pro Crease clients to design their exclusive mask and then utilize a 3M graphic wrap to affix to the helmet. The result, as per the photos below, is a beautiful, customized mask with the look and feel of paint minus the cost and time involvement.

Several benefits of this process include not only time and cost but also the ability to change-out mask designs without having to purchase a new helmet.

Pro Crease Goaltending owner/founder Jared Waimon says "We are very often approached by students seeking how and/or where to get their masks decorated. Sign Pro's customization process is cost-effective and looks fantastic. We're confident their commitment to outstanding customer service and product expertise is on par with that of our own."

"Sign Pro is proud to partner with Pro Crease." Says Pete Rappoccio, Owner/Sign Pro. "Innovation is a major part of Sign Pro's belief system. If you are not cutting edge, you are behind the curve. Pro Crease shares the same values. For this reason, the Sign Pro and Pro Crease brands are a complementary match."

Knight & Petruzzelli Represent USA Hockey!

Congratulations to Pro Crease Goaltending students Spencer Knight and Keith Petruzzelli on their invitation and recent performance at the 2018 World Junior Summer Showcase ("WJSS") in Kamploops, British Columbia.

The WJSS provides the opportunity for a country's top U20 players to compete against each other. This year's week-long camp featured 11 international competitions between Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States.

Many of these players will be chosen by their respective countries to compete in this year's World Junior Championship which will take place at Christmas time in British Columbia.

This year's USA Hockey's goaltending coach is Pro Crease Goaltending Elite Week Coach David Lassonde from Dartmouth University. Coach Lassonde won a Gold medal in this event back in 2013.

Newington Evening Camp Success!

We would like to thank all of our amazing campers from our Newington Evening Camp that concluded this past Thursday. Every day was more fun and exciting then the next. Throughout the camp there was a huge emphasis  on puck handling, lateral release and making great glove and blocker saves!

Dr. Jason Emery gave two talks that greatly resonated with our goalies. He is a tremendous asset to our culture and camps. We look forward to our remaining 2018 summer camps. If you have not yet enrolled, we have 3 spots avaiable in our Avon Old Farms Evening Camp running August 13 - 16th.

Laurentino Makes a Statement!

Pro Crease Goaltending goaltender, Quinten Laurentino recently attended tryout camp for the N.A.H.L.'s latest expansion team, the Maryland Black Bears. "Q" was the only 2002 birth year goaltender to be invited to the camp. After competing against 15 other goaltenders as much as 4 years older than himself Q earned an invite to the team's upcoming final tryout camp.

Quinten is a Pro Crease Goaltending veteran of a number of different camps and clinics. He has played for the L.I. Royals for 4+ years. We are very proud of his recent success.

CONGRATULATIONS QUINTEN!

Pro Crease Goaltending is very excited to announce that Air Force Academy's John Gnan was named an Americn College Hockey Association (ACHA) 2nd Team All American. John finished the season with an astounding 17-2-2 record!

John commitment to his game is only second to his academic prowess and his commitment to our country. John serves on the Academy's Honor Committee and in that capacity oversees honor cases for 1,000 Air Force cadets. This fall he will ascend to C1C - Group Honor Officer.

Air Force's ACHA team plays a highly competitive schedule against the likes of the University of Northern Colorado, University of Wyoming and the University of Denver. The ACHA provides a competitive path for hockey players to continue playing through college while not compromising  academic and career goals. Pro Crease Goaltending is proud of all our ACHA goaltenders. They are all playing college hockey with passion and a continued desire to compete, excel and achieve.

We salute you John and feel fortunate to call you one of our own!

RAVENS LAND CARMAN!

unnamed.png

In 2009, Pro Crease Goaltending Owner Jared Waimon began working with all the goaltenders in a brand new organization in Wilkes Barre, PA. While coaching, Jared connected with Adam Carman who at that time was a Pee Wee. Adam was being unfairly sat for multiple games at a time so the team manager's son could play over and over again (at the Pee Wee level there is no need for a starter - back up thought process). Adam, at 12, just wanted to compete and be a contributor to his peer group. Devastated with how the season had gone, Adam was on the verge of quitting. However, his amazing parents - Russ, a town public's works employee and Sue, a self - employed nail technician - kept his spirits up and Adam continued to play youth hockey.

As the years progressed so did Adam. Even though he is an undersized goalie at 5'9", Adam earned a spot on his local junior team and even received Goaltender of the Year honors in 2014-15. Since then, Adam has been playing with the Middlesex Bears which is a hockey/prep school in Massachusetts. All the while, Adam and his mother have been helping his father recuperate from a stroke and series of health related aliments. Despite all the adversity, Adam endured and we are very excited to announce he has earned a commitment to Franklin Pierce University. "Pierce" competes in the NE-10 against schools including St. Anselm College and St. Michael's College. Adam, with the support of his parents, never complained nor ever thought about what "other" goalies were doing. He just worked hard, enjoyed being on the ice and overcame setbacks, both on and off the ice, to achieve this extraordinary honor.

CONGRATULATIONS ADAM!

Creel Answers The Bell!

unnamed.jpg

Congratulations to Pro Crease Goaltender Tanner Creel and the University of Connecticut Men's Hockey Team on their recent 3 game winning streak. With victories over top ranked Providence College and a pair of wins over the University of New Hampshire, the Huskies have greatly improved their playoff positioning.

What makes this story amazing, is senior goaltender Tanner Creel who has won all three games, hadn't played since February of 2016. After starting goaltender Adam Huska injured his arm, Tanner answered the bell with an amazing 26 save performance over Providence. Pro Crease Goaltending Coaching Director Matthew Michno is in his first season with the Huskies as their Goaltending Coach after having spent two season in a similar capacity with Brown University.

Rossman to Assist with Wesleyan!

Congratulations to Pro Crease Goaltending Coach Sydney Rossman on joining the Women's Coaching Staff at Wesleyan University. Sydney will be joining a Wesleyan team that is on the rise with top goaltender and Pro Crease Goaltending Women's Camp attendee Allegra Grant (Grant was a NESCAC Player of the Week last season).

Sydney's work with Pro Crease Goaltending will remain unaffected as she will continue to be available for lessons at H3 in Hamden as well as working with a number of youth hockey organizations throughout Connecticut.

Pro Crease Goaltending is very excited to have yet another coach be sought after and join a prestigious collegiate program.

ACHA Goaltenders Shining Across the Country!

The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) provides an excellent opportunity for high caliber players to continue to play competitively while seeking the best possible education in college. There are DI, II & III levels in the ACHA with a total of 400 different teams playing across the country.

A number of Pro Crease Goaltending Goalies are having excellent ACHA seasons.  Ben Famigletti, a freshman at Providence College (D2), has a 1-0-1 record having beaten the University of Maine and tied Holy Cross. Eric Parker, a sophomore at Syracuse University (D1), is 3-0-0 and recently knocked off 9th ranked Stony Brook University with a shutout! Zach Hoffman, a sophomore at the University of Tampa (D3), is currently 5-2-0 and has a .908 save percentage.

Finally, John Gnan who is a cadet at the Air Force Academy, is 9-2-0 and ranked 4th in D3.

We are very proud of all our ACHA goaltenders and their commitment to both their education and continued passion for the game!

RED WINGS PROSPECT PETRUZZELLI ADJUSTING TO NCAA HOCKEY

unnamed.jpg

Moving up to the next highest level in any sport is a tough adjustment for any athlete. For hockey goaltenders, the task is even more daunting. The speed of the players increases an incredible amount at each step.

Detroit Red Wings draft pick Keith Petruzzelli has been making these adjustments look easy for the last few years, jumping from high school hockey, to a U18 academy, to the USHL, and now to NCAA division I in only four years. "It was a big jump going from U18 hockey to the USHL,"

Petruzzelli told InGoal Magazine in a recent interview. "The depth on each team is a lot stronger. Everyone can shoot and everyone can make plays. Getting used to the pace and speed of things was tough at the beginning, but I thought I adjusted well."

Specifically, Petruzzelli felt that even with his 6-foot-5 frame - managing his depth was the biggest key. "I had to push myself with my depth management. I knew in U18 I could just sit back and rely on my size because most players would just hit me with their shots. In the USHL I always had to have my toes at the top of the crease, which really pushed my skating ability."

The adjustment from U18 to USHL may pale in comparison to his next challenge: NCAA Division I hockey with the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

As the game speeds-up around you at higher levels, most goaltenders have the habit of sliding around their crease more frequently. Mentally, it feels like there isn't enough time to get set for a shot.

The problem with sliding more frequently is that if the puck goes back in the other direction, the goaltender has to load their leg in order to push back. Goalies are now taught to stay on their feet as long as they can, because this allows them to have access to edges on both of their skates.

This can be a real test for goaltenders that do not have excellent skating ability, and that's something Petruzzelli would like to work on. "If you beat the pass on your feet, you're able to get set early," Petruzzelli explained. "It gives you confidence because you aren't moving. If I'm already in position and square, I have a much better chance of making the save than if I was moving into the shot."

"I want to continue working on my skating. Being set makes such a huge difference for me, with my size. If I can continue working on my skating, getting more explosive, and faster, I think that would be a huge thing for me."

The knowledge and understanding of the position is something that bodes well for Petruzzelli's future. His continued work with Quinnipiac goaltending coach Jared Waimon will ensure that he doesn't fall into the trap of being down early on passing plays against some very tough NCAA division I opponents.
